A Saxon town with a Norman motte and bailey castle at the top of the hill, on a man-made mound

St Mary’s church was built 1432 to 1460 and the stone rood screen was finished in 1460

This man had four wives. The font is from the 1400s

 

The museum (left) was built in 1575

This house has a public path through the archway

Former warehouses and 18th century coaching inn
