This grand Victorian house has been a private school since 1928. The estate had belonged to the Holford family since the mid 1600s. They established the Arboretum, which is now run by the Forestry Commission

The ceilings are amazing

The ceiling (below) is a copy of one in Florence by Michael Angelo. The wall covering is made of silk

Some of the fireplaces have come from older buildings

This ceiling was never finished

The mirrors are ornate too

It must have employed many servants in its day

The Italianate garden has summer houses with mosaic floors

The camellia house

The picture frame seat

The Mercury pond

The Dolphin Pool

A rainbow of colours on one tree

Westonbirt Church is next-door to the house. It was founded in the 12th century. The village used to be by it, but it was moved away

Monument to Robert Staynor Holford who died 1892, who built the house
